What is your story? What inspires you to sing?

My Story…Jennifer the Diva SingeR

I remember watching the movie Amadeus and being so inspired by the music that I immediately got the soundtrack and listened to it over and over. Hearing the operatic soprano sing the arias called to my soul! I have been on a mission ever since to sing that repertoire successfully and comfortably. As a singer, I wanted to knock it out of the park!

What was the moment when YOU knew you wanted to SING?

Among my early memories, I remember visiting my grandma’s home and being drawn to the beautiful grand piano in her living room. I started studying piano in 4th grade, beginning my musical journey! Music has been my language of choice ever since.

Church music was a strong influence and connection. I was the one ‘kid’ in the adult choir who enjoyed singing along with Mom and hearing the big pipe organ play at full blast. In communicating the love of God through music, I found a purpose for my singing.

When I was a young teen, Amy Grant was my favorite singer. Although I wanted to sing just like her, my sound was different. I lacked confidence about having the “right” voice to be able to sing the music I loved.

Would anyone want to hear me if I didn’t sound like Amy Grant? Where did I fit? Could I sing like that soprano in Amadeus instead?

What challenges you, discourages you, motivates you to keep going?

Jennifer the Overcomer

I have overcome so many obstacles throughout my own journey. During college, I put my heart and soul into being a music major, not as singer, but as a pianist. Soon I set my sights on adding vocal performance to my degree. And wow! I was able to develop my voice, be competitive and become recognized as a singer!

I enjoy the challenge of surpassing people’s expectations. I thrive as an underdog. It motivates me to overcome obstacles and ‘prove them wrong.’

Along my journey, I discovered that my particular voice type was lyric soprano–my ‘true’ voice. This knowledge was the key to unlocking what my voice was meant to sing. I could tackle those arias that I‘d heard in Amadeus!

I know what it feels like to be discouraged, hindered, overlooked or even dismissed. I also know what it is like on the other side of those feelings--the freedom of unlocked vocal potential, to sing as I dreamed I could!

What I do…JENN the LIVELY TEACHER

A teacher has sooo many roles: facilitator, partner, observer, refiner, coach, technician, encourager, and leader to name a few.

I have 30 years of experience teaching teenagers and adults of all ages. I love being a part of a ‘singer’s journey’ - helping them set a foundation of basic musicianship and healthy technique. It is just as important for a singer to develop their own sense of self, with confidence in their instrument and how they use it.

HEAR JENNIFER SING

There are so many things I like about Jennifer Nagy’s voice studio.

Jennifer is herself an accomplished, seasoned vocalist and performer. The first time I heard Jennifer sing as a performer, she moved me to tears; and as I have gotten to know her through seeing her work with my three children, she sings with the same love and passion as she gives to working with her voice students.
